Beth Ann (Voelker) Haugstad

Elizabeth “Beth” Haugstad, 63, of Bemidji, MN died Friday, April 28, 2017 at her home.

Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 4, 2017 at the Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home, Bemidji with Pastor Kent Dudley officiating. Family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Inurnment will be in Southarm Cemetery, Bemidji.

Elizabeth Ann Voelker was born August 28, 1953 in Minneapolis, MN to Roger and Marian (Thorson) Voelker. She grew up and graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1971. She went on to attend Bemidji State University and received a degree in social work. She met and eventually married Jon Haugstad in Bemidji on November 29, 1975. Beth went to work for Planned Parenthood of Minnesota for over 20 years. She then went to work for Beltrami County and finally Havenwood Care Center until her retirement in 2015. Beth and Anna enjoyed visiting Minnesota State Parks. She enjoyed the outdoors of northern Minnesota where she loved camping and spending hours on the water. Beth and her sister’s travel experiences were another fond memory of hers. Beth was a tremendous wordsmith constantly winning in Scrabble.

She is survived by her husband, Jon Haugstad of Bemidji; daughter, Anna (Chad Gruber) Haugstad of Bemidji; grandson, James Gruber of Bemidji; sister, Susan Gee of Walnut Creek, CA and nieces, Kirsten Jones and Veronica Elliott.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Roger and Marian Voelker and son, Derrick Haugstad.

In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred the American Cancer Society.
