Wanda Louise (Heuer) Johnson

Wanda Louise Johnson, 85, of Bemidji MN, died Monday, December 20, 2021 at GoldPine Home in Bemidji from complications of Alzheimer’s Disease.

Celebration of Life services will be held at 2:00 on Friday, January 14, 2022 at First Lutheran Church, Bemidji, MN.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.  Arrangements made by the Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home in Bemidji.

Wanda was born on September 16, 1936 to Carl and Agnes (Munson) Heuer in Brainerd, MN.  She graduated from Princeton High School in 1954.  She attended Gustavus Adolphus College, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in social work and also met her future husband, Lloyd Johnson.  They were married on December 28, 1958.  After living in Denver, CO where Lloyd attended graduate school, they moved to Bemidji in 1962 where Wanda lived until the time of her death.  Lloyd died on November 24, 2008. While raising four children Wanda was a very active member of First Lutheran Church and the Bemidji Affiliate of the American Swedish Institute (even though she let everyone know that she was NOT Swedish, just married to one who was).  She was an avid cross country skier, walker, gardener and sports fan. Lloyd and Wanda spent a good chunk of their lives cheering on their children and grandchildren in all their sports, music and theater events.   Wanda loved to travel, spending three months in Europe during a summer in college with several Gustavus classmates.  She and Lloyd enjoyed traveling to Europe, Canada and throughout the country with family and friends and spending as much time as possible in retirement with their children and grandchildren.

Wanda’s family would like to thank the many “Bemidji Angels” who cared for Wanda and made it possible for her to remain in Bemidji following Lloyd’s death.

Wanda is survived by sons Mark of Dallas, TX, Michael of Minneapolis, MN, Gregg (Gina) of Pittsburgh, PA, and daughter, Pam (Scott) Grossmann of Minnetonka, MN; grandchildren Laura and Chad Grossmann and Elinor Johnson;  brother-in-law and sister-in-law Orville and Kathy Johnson of Stillwater, MN.   Wanda was preceded in death by her parents Carl and Agnes Heuer, her husband, Lloyd and her brother-in-law and sister-in-law Louis and Eunice Anderson.

In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to First Lutheran Church or the Bemidji Community Food Shelf.
