Walter "Chum" Wesley Busse

Walter (Chum) Busse was born February 21, 1942 at Park Rapids, MN to Wilbert and Margaret (Jackson) Busse of Lake George, MN. Chum attended and graduated from Laporte High School in May of 1960. On June 23, 1964 he joined the United States Army. During his time in the service, he spent eight months in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged on May 31, 1970.

On December 9th, 1967 he married the one he devoted his loving life to, Clara Anne Stoa at Laporte, MN. They built their lives in Lake George on the lake. Chum worked in logging, construction and farming. His favorite was the logging where he enjoyed his time in the woods. When Chum wasn’t working, he enjoyed welding and creating, collecting tractors, collecting toy tractors and giving a helping hand to his neighbors/community in any way he could.

Chum was a member of the Lake George Volunteer Fire Department for 10+ years, a member of the Lake Itasca Farmers Show for many years and a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Laporte. After Clara’s retirement, he and Clara traveled to Arizona for the winters, easily meeting new friends and happily exploring new places.

Chum is survived by his wife Clara; daughters Lisa Ann (Wyatt) Weckworth of Willmar, Annette Irene (Mike) Weber of Shafer; grandsons Parker Erickson of Montevideo, Anthony Weber of Shafer; twin sister Jeanie Dwight and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mother-in-law Dorothy Stoa and Father-in-law Melvin Stoa.
