Thomas “Tom” Steele, 82, of Bemidji, MN died Friday, January 5, 2024.
Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, January 12, 2024 at Calvary Lutheran Church, Bemidji. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Thursday, January 11, 2024 at the Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home, Bemidji and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Thomas Leroy Steele was born December 3, 1941 in Bemidji to Jerome and Alice (Kruft) Steele. He grew up in Bemidji and graduated from Bemidji High School in 1959. He entered the U.S. Navy in 1964 and served until his honorable discharge in 1968. On October 10, 1964 he married Priscilla “Sally” Johnson in Bemidji. They owned and operated the Little Norway Trailer Court from 1976 until 1987. He worked at Bemidji State University as a carpenter until his retirement. Tom loved golf, fishing, hunting, curling, bowling and playing cribbage/games with friends and family. He would help anyone without blinking an eye, volunteer at Meals on Wheels, helped with construction repairs at church, help in the kitchen at church, plow and keep roads maintained for the neighborhood and was a skilled carpenter and cabinet maker. Tom loved life and spending time with his family and friends, often traveling to see them. He was always on the go and seldom stationary.
He is survived by his wife, Sally; son, Jason Steele; daughters, Leslie Bartels and Leah (Scott) Hendricks; 5 grandchildren, Travis Bartels, Tanner Bartels, Jacob Steele, Madison Hendricks and Mara Hendricks; 4 brothers, Glenn Steele, Curt (Ardy) Steele, Stephen (Theresa) Steele and Stanley (Peggy) Steele and sister, Kathy Stombaugh and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Donna Schmitt and brothers, Roger Steele and Bob Steele.
In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the American Kidney Fund or the Bemidji Community Food Shelf.
