Shelly Lynn Joy

Shelly Lynn Joy, 47, of Bemidji, MN died Saturday, November 9, 2024 at Sanford Bemidji Medical Center surrounded by family.

Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, November 21, 2024 at the Bemidji Covenant Church. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, November 20, 2024 at the Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church.

Shelly was born on January 3, 1977 in Park Rapids, MN the daughter of Darryl Solberg and Kathryn (Seitz) Solberg. She was raised in Bemidji and attended Blackduck School and later moved to Pine River and graduated from Pine River/Backus School in 1995. She met David Joy and later married on August 26, 2006. Shelly attended Northwest Technical College, Bemidji and completed the LPN program. Later, she attended Northland Technical College, Thief River Falls, and completed the RN program. She worked for Sanford Bemidji Medical Center for 20 plus years.

Shelly’s goal in life was to own her own assisted living. She purchased Elk Ridge Assisted Living and had the business for four years until she became ill. Shelly had such a passion for her family and taking care of people. She loved baking, cooking, decorating, camping, traveling and flowers.

She is survived by her husband, Dave of 30 years; her children, Brandon (Tori) and Taylor; dad, Darryl (Betty) Solberg; her sister, Kristine Boham; brother, Jeffery Newell; step-brother and sister, Jake and Christine Knaack; her father-in-law, Lowell Joy and many uncles, aunts and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Kathryn (Seitz) Solberg; her mother-in-law, Gloria Joy; her grandparents and numerous uncles and aunts.
