Sheila Lou (DesJardins) Otting

Sheila Lou (DesJardins) Otting was born July 30, 1941 in Detroit Lakes, MN to George and Lucille DesJardins. She passed away April 4, 2021.

A Celebration of Life will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 9, 2021 at Zion Lutheran Church of Eddy Township, rural Bagley.

She was raised in Felton, MN by her paternal grandparents, Ernest and Regina (Usselman) DesJardins. She attended school in Felton. She married David Otting on June 6, 1959. They farmed at Felton until moving to the Clearbrook area in 1965. They farmed there with the help of their four daughters. They were in dairy for about 40 years before switching to beef cattle. She was a beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was always a good listener, with a good sense of humor who encouraged others. Her home was a gathering place for friends and family who always felt welcome, even when showing up unannounced. She put others’ needs above her own and was always willing to lend a hand. She dedicated her life to her husband and her family, who will miss her dearly.

She is survived by her husband, David, of 61 years; daughters, Nancy Lougheed, Marilyn “Joan” (Jerome) Serbus, Deborah (Dan) Ley, and Teryl (Lyle) Waughtal; grandchildren, Lindsey (Brett) Wyant, Casey Lougheed, Briana Serbus, David (Sierra) Serbus, Joshua LaRue, Sheila LaRue, Lee Waughtal and Tyler Waughtal; three great-grandchildren, Luke and Jacob Wyant  and Dawson Serbus; step-sisters, Phyllis Dittmer and Diane Nesvold; many nieces and nephews and sisters-in-law, Roberta Otting and Marilyn Green.

She was preceded in death by her parents; step-mother, Enga Anderson; sisters, Georgia Larson and Mary Hilde; nephews, Chris Speer, Jeff Larson and Michael Larson and two infant daughters.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the family.
