Rodney Lorin Dehart

Rodney Dehart, 85, of Bemidji, MN died Wednesday, September 10, 2025 at Sanford Bemidji Medical Center.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, September 15, 2025 at Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home, Bemidji. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be in Guthrie Cemetery.

Rodney Lorin Dehart was born November 5, 1939 in Bemidji to Edward and Lilly (Swanson) Dehart. He grew up on the family farm near Guthrie. He attended grade school in Guthrie and graduated from Bemidji High School in 1957. He met the love of his life, Kathleen Joyce Olson while at the Guthrie Community Fair. They married on September 5, 1959. To this union they had two sons, Dean Lorin and Donald Lee. Rodney and Kathy made their home in International Falls on beautiful Rainy Lake for 43 years. Rodney worked at the M & O (Minnesota Ontario Paper Company), later becoming Boise Cascade until his retirement on December 31, 2001. They then moved to a beautiful log home in Hubbard County where they enjoyed much wildlife and many surrounding trees. “In the woods” until 2022 when they moved to BirchHaven Senior Living in Bemidji. Rodney was an avid bow hunter. The highlight of his life was harvesting an elk in Wyoming. He and Kathy were very much involved and traveled extensively with the Boone & Crocket club measuring antlers. While living in International Falls, he was a member for many years of The Voyageurs International Snowmobile Club providing many hours grooming and maintaining trails. Rodney also maintained the Moonlight Archery Club. Rodney loved spending time with his family and was especially fond of his four grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy; sons, Dean (Brenda) and Donald (Mary); siblings, Darlene Christiansen, Larry (Claudia) Dehart and Diane (LeRoy) Morris; brother-in-law, Bruce (Shirley) Olson; grandchildren, Joshua (Amanda) Dehart, Kirsten (Major) Hopp, Katie (Greg) Malbraaten and Emily Dehart; great-grandchildren, Sawyer and Evelyn Dehart and Maddox, Xavier and Brexton Hopp.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Lilly Dehart; brothers-in-law, Curt Christiansen, Gene Olson, John (Ellis) Olson, Bob (Kay) Olson and Richard (Jeanette) Olson and many cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and colleagues.
