Butch was born on April 2, 1950 in Mahnomen, MN. He grew up on his family’s farm and always spoke fondly of the time he spent there. He worked for most of his life as an electrician. He enjoyed reading his Bible, gardening, fishing, and sneaking cheeseburgers to his beloved dog Shadow. On December 28th, 1974, he married the love of his life, Elaine Joyce Schaumburg.
In 1990, Butch and Elaine moved into their country home near Bemidji, MN. They spent much of their time in their backyard tending to their beautiful garden, going to visit their siblings, and fighting over the tv remote. Their Sundays were spent in church, at family lunches, and, of course, watching football. When he was working away from home, he would call his wife multiple times a day, send her sappy cards, and sometimes even surprised her with flowers. Butch and Elaine share a love few will ever know.
Most notably, Butch Schaumburg was a grandfather. He loved his grandchildren and took them on many outings. His favorite outing was the Beltrami County Fair. He took his first grandchild, Aysa, to her first county fair when she was a baby, and it quickly became a tradition between him and his grandchildren. He would travel miles and sometimes hours to watch his grandchildren’s games, performances, and recitals. He never missed an opportunity to spoil or support his grandchildren. He cared deeply for each of them, and they cared for him in equal measure.
He will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his grandchildren; Aysa (Spencer) Mackey, Bennett Westrum, Amiya Westrum, Lilly Westrum, Amaris Westrum, Anya Scandrett, Drake Scandrett, his great-grandson Cassel Mackey, his dog Shadow, and many nieces and nephews; siblings, Patricia Todahl, Susan (Ron) Matson-Thorsrud, Rodney (Gwenn) Schaumburg and Mark (Jane) Schaumburg. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Elaine Schaumburg, daughter JoAnn Marie, and twins Ernie Allen and Paula Ann; parents, John & Dorothy; brothers, Dale &Michael.
