Richard Johnson, 80, of Bemidji, MN died Monday, April 22, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.
Memorial service will be 11:00 am, Friday, May 3, 2024, at the Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home, Bemidji, MN with Pastor Kent Dudley officiating. The visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
Richard Lawrence Johnson was born April 7, 1944, in Bemidji, MN to Carl & Sylvia Johnson. He grew up and graduated from Bemidji High School in 1962. After high school, Richard worked for the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources until he enlisted in the US Army where he served in Korea from 1965-1967. On September 11, 1965, he married his longtime sweetheart Jean Risland in Calvary Lutheran Church in Bemidji. Richard and Jean moved to the Twin Cities where Richard attended Dunwoody Institute where he studied to be a surveyor. He worked for Schoell & Madson Company in Minneapolis as a surveyor from 1968 until his retirement in 2006. They moved back to Bemidji to be closer to their family. Richard enjoyed bowling, golfing, traveling, working in his yard, and just chatting with family and friends.
Surviving Richard are his wife, Jean; son Tony (Janna) Johnson; daughter-in-law, Tina (Jay) Huseby; granddaughters, Paige, Janna, Abby, Jessica, and Samantha; brother, Bob Johnson and numerous nieces and nephews. Richard is preceded in death by his parents and son, Todd.
