Richard Christiansen, 88, of Bemidji, MN died Saturday, July 4 at Sanford Center, Bemidji.
Richard Christiansen was born January 5, 1938, in Bemidji, MN to Adolph & Tilda Christiansen. He grew up as the youngest of 9 siblings on the family dairy farm in the Carr Lake Community. He attended Carr Lake School until the eighth grade and Bemidji High School, where he graduated in 1956. Richard served his country in the US Army, where he spent time in Korea with the 17th Transportation Battalion. He was honorably discharged in 1967. On July 11, 1964, he married Janice Schauls, in Bemidji. They raised 4 children on Grace Lake, where they made uncountable memories of fishing, swimming, and enjoying the lake life. In the winter, Richard could be seen riding his Arctic Cat snowmobiles or driving his boys to early morning hockey practice or the games. Richard enjoyed fishing, hunting, watching the Minnesota Wild, and spending time with his five wonderful grandchildren: Karissa, Ethan, Tyler, Brielle, and Kaliyah.
Richard is survived by his wife, Janice; children, Jeff (Brooklyn Center), Joseph (Sarah) Christiansen (Larimore, ND), Cory (Bemidji), and Chad (Bemidji). He is preceded in death by his parents and 6 brothers and 3 sisters.
