Norman John Malterud

Norman Malterud, 76, of Bemidji, MN died Monday, February 6, 2023, peacefully at his home in Bemidji.

Memorial Services will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 11, 2023 at the Fern Town Hall, Becida, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the town hall. Pallbearers will be all his nephews and nieces.  Honorary Pallbearers will be all staff, students and members of the BSU Fitness Center.

Norman John Malterud was born June 30, 1946 in Bemidji to Leonard and Fern (Nielsen) Malterud. He went to grade school at Sunny Hill school in Becida, then Bemidji High School and graduated Class of 1964. He graduated Bemidji State College in 1968. He taught English-Social Studies in Owatonna then moved to Minneapolis and taught English at Apple Valley, he retired 1996. Norman moved to Bemidji in 2005 where he enjoyed his family, fishing, gardening, collecting antiques, his H Farmall tractor, traveling and his cabin in Becida. Norman was a historian for his family and Fern Township (Becida Cemetery). Norman was so proud of the new Fern Township Hall, he also worked with the Bemidji High School Arch.

He is survived by his siblings, Bruce (Janie) Malterud, Paul (Rita) Malterud, Karen (Gary) Flynn, Ellen (Bob) Schneider, Kay (Tom) Rusk, Jane (Tom Conzemius) Miller and Dale (Sandi) Malterud; several nieces and nephews and his partner, Stan Gardinich.

He was preceded in death by his parents Leonard Malterud and Fern Nielsen Malterud.
