Nason J. McDermott (Shadow), 67, White Earth Ojibwe, began his journey to the spirit world on October 25, 2024 in Bemidji. He was born to Vera Jean Nason McDermott and Clair F. “Mac” McDermott on January 24, 1957. He was born and raised in Bemidji until the death of his mother, and then lived in Minneapolis with his aunt and uncle. He married Donna Murphy and together they raised their family, primarily in the state of Washington, until her passing in 2008.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, three sisters: Katie McDermott, Claire (Jeanne) McDermott Dahlberg, and Roxanne McDermott; his brother Michael (Dugan) McDermott; and his granddaughter, Stormy Moberg.
Nason is survived by his children, Izaak Rassat, Jennifer Moberg, Jason Murphy, Nason McDermott, Jr., Quentin McDermott, and special son, Jason Schmitt; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. To know him was to love him.
The Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home is assisting the family. Per Nason’s wishes, there will be no services.
