Myrtle Geneva (Sletten) Risland

Myrtle Risland, 99, of Bemidji, MN, died Monday, October 30, 2023 at GoldPine Home, Bemidji.

Memorial Services will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 14, 2023 at Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home, Bemidji with Pastor Kent Dudley officiating. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Inurnment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Bemidji.

Honorary bearers will be Joel Johnson and Richard Johnson.

Urn bearers will be her grandchildren, Tony Johnson, Andy Risland, Joe Johnson, Matthew Johnson and Katie Mischke.

Myrtle Geneva Sletten was born April 22, 1924 in Bemidji to Ole and Sylvia (Peters) Sletten. She grew up in Shevlin and Bemidji. On December 8, 1943 Myrtle married Edward Risland. She worked 17 years as a cashier at Super Johns and Food 4 Less. She was the president of the American Legion Auxiliary. Myrtle was on a bowling league for 17 years and was an avid gardener and won best yard garden award. Family was everything to our mom, she loved children and they all loved her.

She is survived by her daughters, Betty Jean (Richard) Johnson of Bemidji and Bonnie (Joel) Johnson of Bemidji; 5 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, Paige, Janna, Abby, Johie, Auzie, Jessica, Samantha, Emma, Lucy, Jack, Hunter and Cody; daughter-in-law, Diane Risland; brothers, Arthur Sletten of Bemidji and Ernie Sletten of Washington and sister, Betty Larsen of Ham Lake.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ole and Sylvia; husband, Edward; brothers, Albert and George; sister, Arvella Skarohlid; son, Robert; and grandson, Todd Johnson.
