Michael Ray Whelan

Michael Ray "Mike" Whelan, age 86, passed away on November 10, 2021 at Nielson Place in Bemidji, MN.

Michael Ray Whelan was born February 22, 1935 to Wallace and Valborg (Jallen) Whelan. Michael served in the US Army from 1958 to 1961. He was a teacher, owned several gas stations, car lots, drove semi-trucks both in Minnesota and Alaska. He enjoyed working on cars, dancing, going to casinos, having coffee with buddies and telling jokes of which he could rattle one right after another.

He married Rosemary Byrne and they had three children. They later divorced.

Mike is survived by his three children, Shelly of Ostrander, MN, Vincent (Elizabeth) of New Brighton, MN and Marybeth of Minnetonka, MN, six grandchildren, Eddy, Wally, Katie, Zander, Sophia, and James, two sisters, LaVonne (Larry) Chelko, Duluth, GA and Roxanne Lofthus, Bemidji, MN, and sister-in-law, Laverne Whelan, Bemidji, MN, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, ex wife, brothers Robert and David, sisters, Janet Lou and Barbara and brother-in-laws Rodney Lofthus and Orion "Gordon" Thompson.

As requested, there will be no service. Interment will be in Island Lake Cemetery, Puposky, MN.
