Mary Jane (Glime) Johnson

Mary Jane Johnson, 86, of Bemidji, MN, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 29, 2021 at Goldpine Home in Bemidji.

Mary Jane was born July 12, 1934, in Cedar Rapids, IA to John L. Glime and Lyra M. (Edaburn) Glime. Mary Jane moved to Bemidji in1941, where her parents started a dairy farm, later known as the Glime Farmstead. Mary Jane was a 1952 graduate of Bemidji High School. Mary Jane married Robert L. Johnson on April 6, 1953 in Bemidji. There the couple would live and raise their six children as well. Mary Jane worked various jobs outside the home while raising her children. She was a Teachers Aide at Riverside School, Retail Grocer for Red Owl and Lueken’s Village Foods. Mary Jane and her husband bob also owned and operated Bob’s Greenery for many years. After selling the business in 1988, they moved to Columbia Falls, MT, where Mary Jane worked for Glacier Foods Grocery and later worked and retired from the Army-Navy Surplus. After the death of her husband Bob in 2011, Mary Jane moved back to Bemidji. Mary Jane (also known as Hubbard, Momsie, Grandma, Pamma and Grandma Great) was best known for her infectious laugh and her always present dimpled smile. She loved to be outside tending to her flower beds, feeding the birds and enjoying the abundance of wildlife around her home. She especially loved her time spent with family and friends for the holidays and special gatherings, playing games, bingo, doing puzzles and going for pontoon rides at Sharon and Ray’s. Mary Jane was a lifetime member of the Eagles, V.F.W., American Legion, Elks, and the Moose Club. She was also a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Bemidji.

Mary Jane will deeply be missed by her 6 children; Cynthia (Margaret) Aakhus of St. Paul, MN, Teresa (Mike) Cannady of Newburyport, MA, Gary Johnson of Mission Viejo, CA, Sharon (Ray) Gavlovsky of Bemidji, MN, Denise (Gary) Hedstrom of Brainerd, MN and Kimberly Johnson of Kalispell, MT; 9 grandchildren, Melissa, Ryan, Rob, Jerry, Tony, Danielle, Mindy, Bryce and Reece; 6 great-grandchildren, Dane, Abby, Christian, Maya, William and Rhett; sister-in-law, Frances Ellman and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mary Jane was preceded in death by her parents, John and Lyra; husband, Robert; grandson, Derek Tate Hedstrom; brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert (May) Glime and Max (Doris) Glime; brothers-in-law, Neil Johnson and Patrick (Chick) Johnson; sister-in-law, Marge Gimbel; nephew, Jeff Glime; niece, Joy Forte and special friend, Donald Hill.

A private family graveside service will be held at a later date at Calvary Cemetery, Bemidji, MN.
