After over four years at Havenwood Care Center, Marlene Bergstrom went to be with her heavenly Father on December 28, 2020.
Marlene Fae Hanson was born on December 12, 1930 to Harry and Hilda Hanson in Thief River Falls, Minnesota. She grew up and graduated from Lake Bronson High School. She worked at her father’s grocery store and later attended Bemidji State Teachers College. She taught grade school at Lancaster, Minnesota and moved to Bemidji where she received her Masters Degree in Counseling. After her graduation from BSC, she taught at the Bemidji Lab School. After several years she began her career at the Bemidji Junior High School as a guidance counselor. She then became a senior high guidance counselor at BHS, where she worked until her retirement.
Marlene was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church where she was active in the Quilters and also served on the Bethel Foundation Board. Marlene was also involved in the Bethel Bazaar as one of its first co-chairman. Marlene was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and also a past member of the Bemidji Curling Club. She loved fishing and enjoyed her family at their cabin in Canada on Lake of the Woods for thirty years. She was also an avid shopper, blueberry picker, and loved to garden and hunt partridge. Marlene loved her family and was so proud of her two granddaughters Jamie and Cassie.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Dr. Harry Hanson Jr.
Marlene is survived by her husband of 56 years, Lennard of Bemidji; her sister Lillian (John) Edman of South Carolina; her son Timothy (Liz) Johnson; granddaughters Jamie (Nate) Haskell of Bemidji and Cassie (Corrie) Potter of Birchwood Village; great-grandchildren Victoria, Calvin, and Oliver Potter.
She was loved and will be missed.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
