Mabel Shofner Obituary

Mabel Shofner, 85, of Bemidji, MN died Tuesday, December 4, 2018 at Sanford Bemidji Medical Center.

Private inurnment will be held at a later time in Pine Ridge Cemetery, Turtle River, MN. Arrangements were entrusted to the Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home, Bemidji, MN.

Mabel Ella Morton was born April 27, 1933 in Flint, MI to Lloyd and Mabel (Anderson) Morton. She graduated from Aitkin High School. Mabel enlisted in U.S. Army serving from 1951-1953. On November 13, 1954 she married Earl Shofner in Aitkin. She helped her husband in his trucking business, worked at the Bemidji VFW and was also a hospice caregiver. Mabel loved dancing, bingo and participating in bowling tournaments.

She is survived by her daughter, Linda (Ronald) Gillman of Nebish; son, Jerry (Leslie) Shofner of Bemidji; 3 grandchildren,  Troy (Sarah) Gillman of Nebish, Tawnel (Mark) Blore of Dickinson, ND and Amy (John) Hannay of Andover; 4 great-grandchildren, Brittany Gillman, Gavin Hannay, Elizabeth Hannay and Isaac Blore and brother, Kermit Morton of Fayetteville, NC.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Mabel Morton; husband, Earl Shofner; brother, Pete Morton; sister,  Arlene and companion,  Robert Cluff.
