Private family services will be held later.

Lyle William Olson was born February 15, 1927 in Bemidji, MN to William & Bethel Olson.  He grew up and lived in Wilton, MN until the age of 10, when his family moved to a farm north of Bemidji.  Bud attended Northern Elementary and Bemidji High School.  In 1945, he entered the US Navy and was stationed on the USS Langley, which was the first ship to enter the Panama Canal after WWII.  He was honorably discharged and came back home to Minnesota and continued logging.  In 1947, he married Lola South and had 3 children: Linda, Lynette, and Bill.  In 1956, Bud and his father started Bemidji Blacktop and he would continue to operate the company until 1986 when he sold the business.  He then started Buds Equipment Sale and ran that until 1992.  Lyle married Carol Haugen in December of 1977.  He and Carol traveled to many areas of the world- some of their best memories were motorhome trips.  In 1991, Lyle and Carol bought a home in Island Park, Idaho and for the next 15 years, Bud rode snowmobile in the mountains of Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming with his many friends.  At the age of 72, Bud harvested timber from the farm and hand built his log cabin in Eckles Township the following year.  After leaving Idaho they spent their winters in Yuma, AZ finally settling back in Bemidji year-round in 2018.

Bud is survived by his wife, Carol; children, Linda Larson, Lynette Steel and Bill (Tracey) Olson; stepchildren, Holly (Bob) Young and Doug (Dorri) Haugen; 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.  He is preceded in death by his parents and sisters Mayvis & Sherley.
