Bud attended Northern Elementary and Bemidji High School. In 1945, he entered the US Navy and was stationed on the USS Langley, which was the first ship to enter the Panama Canal after WWII. In 1991, Lyle and Carol bought a home in Island Park, Idaho and for the next 15 years, Bud rode snowmobile in the mountains of Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming with his many friends. At the age of 72, Bud harvested timber from the farm and hand built his log cabin in Eckles Township the following year.
