Lucille Campbell, 85, of Bemidji, MN died Monday, October 7, 2024 at Havenwood Care Center, Bemidji.
A Celebration of Life will be Sunday, October 20, 2024 from 1-3 p.m., at Havenwood Care Center.
Lucille was born in St. Paul, Minnesota on September 25, 1939, to Charles and Evelyn (Welch) Essed. She grew up in St. Paul and graduated from South St. Paul High School on June 5, 1957. On December 27, 1958, she married the love of her life, Bernard (Bernie) Campbell. Together they made their home in North St. Paul and had four children. They moved to Bemidji, Minnesota in February of 1974.
Lucille was primarily a homemaker, but she did work outside the home as well. She worked at the Thrift Scot Motel in Bemidji when it first opened which is now The Best Western. Later she worked at Lueken’s Village Foods North doing demo’s and helping the floral department. She also helped care for her grandchildren.
Lucille loved animals. She always enjoyed feeding the birds and any other animals that appeared in the yard and enjoyed watching them out the window. She had several cats in her lifetime and a couple of dogs. Her last beloved cat she had was Malphie. She also loved flowers and would have several flowerpots to tend to in the summer. She also enjoyed cooking and baking. There were several movies and television shows she enjoyed watching. She enjoyed a good book as well. When you stopped for a visit, you never left hungry of thirsty.
Family was by her bedside when she took her last breath. She had been battle cancer since 2022.
Lucille is survived by her husband, Bernie of 65 years. Her sister Wadea (Loren) Doffing, and a half -sister Patty Kirk. Three sons, Craig (Paulette) Campbell, Bryan (Eileen) Campbell, James (Deb) Campbell and one daughter, Jane (Dale) Grasdalen. Grandchildren Chelsie, Svannah, Andy, Molly, Josh, Brett, Scott, Alex, and Mikaela. She is also survived by several great-grandchildren along with many other extended family members.
Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, two stepfathers, Charles and Gene, mother-in-law, Hazel, father-in-law, Bernard Sr., father-in-law, Donald, a sister-in-law, Betty, two nephews, Todd and Troy, along with her grandparents and several aunts and uncles. She most recently lost her special friend and neighbor, Karen Daman.
