Lila Mae Milton was born August 30, 1934 in Shooks, MN to James and Edna Milton. She grew up and lived in Shooks, MN, Renton, WA, Duluth, MN and finally Bemidji. Lila was the 2nd of 10 children. On June 28, 1952 she married Ivan Himmelright in Bemidji. They purchased a farm near Debs and raised their family there. In 1963, Lila went to work at Anderson’s Bakery in Bemidji after the death of her son, James. She then became a nurse and worked at North Country Regional Hospital until her retirement in 1995. Lila then was able to take care of her grandkids and spend more time cooking, canning, woodworking and sewing. There wasn’t anything she couldn’t do once she put her mind to it. Lila and Ivan would have celebrated 69 wonderful years of marriage in June, but unfortunately Ivan passed in April of 2021. Lila really loved her family and they truly loved her and will be deeply missed.
