Leslie Walter Petrie

Leslie Petrie, 84, of Bemidji, MN died Monday, September 29, 2025, at Sanford Bemidji Medical Center.

Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, October 6, 2025, at Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home, Bemidji. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Bemidji. Lunch at Pony Lake Church on Hwy. 89 just north of County Rd. 22.

Leslie Walter Petrie was born October 5, 1940, in Bemidji to John and Myrtle (Webster) Petrie. He was baptized and confirmed. He graduated from Bemidji High School. Leslie had various jobs and went into the US Army March 25, 1959. On June 22, 1963, he married Beverly A. Berg. Les enjoyed farming, his sheep, cattle, pigs, llamas, and various other animals over the years and of course the stock dogs were like family members. He also enjoyed working and doing things with his Grand kids and other family members and friends. He was always ready to drop what he was doing if a neighbor needed help. He knew and was friends with many people as he lived his whole life of 85 years in Liberty township on his 5-generation family farm, with his family around him all working together for the past 127 years. He really enjoyed hunting with family and going to a rummage sale at every opportunity that he could! Also liked visiting with people and telling stories and jokes. All in all, he had a rewarding and productive life and will be missed by many friends and family members.

He is survived by one son, Rodney John (Connie) Petrie; grandchildren, Dawson (Genna) Petrie, Phillip (Isabelle) Petrie and Ben Petrie; brother-in-law, Donald Johnson; niece, Jayne Johnson and nephew, Terry Johnson, numerous other brother and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews on his wife’s side of the family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly, parents, John, Myrtle, and sister, Darlene Johnson.
