Kenneth John Merschman, 96, died Thursday, January 8, 2026, at home surrounded by family.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m., January 15, 2026 at St. Philip’s Catholic Church, Bemidji. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Bemidji.
Kenny was born June 16, 1929, to Regina and Frank Merschman in Bagley, Minnesota. Kenny married the love of his life and best friend, Audrey Lois Hanson, on March 20, 1954. Together they shared 71 wonderful years of marriage, just a few months shy of their 72nd anniversary. Kenny lived a life devoted to his family and his Catholic faith. A Korean War veteran, he served his Country with courage and strength. In 1954, he established and operated Kenny’s Standard in Bemidji, Minnesota, retiring in 2016. Kenny and Audrey lived in their home for 67 years, where he especially enjoyed tending to his flowers and maintaining his beautiful yard. His strong work ethic inspired everyone who knew him. He loved spending time with family, traveling, and fishing.
Kenny is survived by his wife, Audrey; their children, Debra (Dan) McGinty, Alan (Karen) Merschman, Brian (Janet) Merschman, Cheryl (Mark) Windels, Caryn (Larry) Bailey, and Judith (Bill) Fisher; 13 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and his brother, Gary (Linda) Merschman.He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Eugene, LeRoy, and Larry; and his sister, Cecelia.
