Joyce was born to Alice and Charles P. Beaulieu, April 5, 1931, in Red Lake, Minnesota. She married Archie Barrett on January 24, 1949. Together they raised 4 children, all of whom she was very proud of. They celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary before Archie passed. They farmed for a while before moving to the Iron Range where she worked as a waitress. Upon returning to Red Lake, Archie built the Swirly Top Drive-in for her to operate which was a delight for many growing up on the reservation in the 60’s. After closing, she was a homemaker for a while then opened the Red Lake Grocery Store. She sold the store and went to work for the Red Lake School District as a paraprofessional. After retiring she enjoyed gardening, taking care of her home, sewing, going to casinos, traveling with Archie and then with her children. She also enjoyed solving daily sudoku puzzles and watching the Price is Right. Joyce was a classy lady, hardworking selfless person always putting her family first.
She will be missed dearly by her children, LaNae (Bill) Pemberton, Randy Barrett, Dolly (Paul) Johnson and Merri (Bill Moe) Barrett; 7 grandchildren, Jolene (Sonny) Schoenborn, Leah Barrett, Todd (Char) Barrett, Randy Lee Barrett, Chelsi Barrett, Kara Johnson, and Matthew Johnson; 13 great-grandchildren, Cash, Carly, Sydney, Shawna, Sage, Ed, Nia, Aaron, Chalina, Rashaun, Todd, Jordan, Angel; she was also blessed with 7 great-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles P. and Alice Beaulieu; husband Archie; granddaughter Marilayne May; sisters, Beverly Beaulieu, Arlene Sumner, Doris Brown, Brenda Landgraf, Ethel Pemberton and brothers, Emerson Beaulieu and Ralph Beaulieu.
