John Kincs, 88, of Guthrie, MN died Friday, January 1, 2020 at Sanford Bemidji Medical Center.

Services will be held at a later date.

John Kenneth Kincs was born December 14, 1932.  He grew up in Chicago, IL and then in Guthrie, MN.  He graduated from Bemidji High School in 1950.  He enlisted in the US Navy, serving 20 years as an Aviation Electronics Technician. After retiring with a rank of Master Chief Petty Officer in 1971, he earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees at BSU.  He worked for several years for the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Cass Lake.  He then taught technical school in Alexandria, MN and then spent many years as a substitute teacher in Laporte and Bemidji.

John loved to garden and provided produce for his own family and for the community.  He often took truckloads of pumpkins to schools for the children.  He was an avid reader and loved to learn something new each day.  He shared his wealth of knowledge freely and enthusiastically.  He was a member of Malvik Lutheran Church and served on the Guthrie Township Board.

John helped anyone who needed a hand and would give freely of his time and talents.  His life is celebrated by his loving wife of 64 years, Elaine, his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as many relatives and friends who will always treasure his sense of humor, sacrifices and unconditional love.

A memorial gathering will be held in the spring for family and close friends. Those wishing to commemorate John’s life are encouraged to make donations to the Kitchigami Regional Library System, the services of which he greatly enjoyed.
