Jane Margaret (Thelen) Walk

Jane (Janie) Margaret Walk of Turtle River, MN passed away unexpectedly of cancer, August 9, 2022, surrounded by family, at Sanford Hospital in Bemidji, MN. 

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 13, 2022 at the Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home, Bemidji with Pastor Kayla Billings officiating. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday, August 12, 2022 at the Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home, Bemidji and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be in Pine Ridge Cemetery, Turtle River.

Janie was born on January 20, 1950 to Leo Nicholas Thelen and Bettie Lois (Larson) Thelen, in Sioux Falls, SD.  She graduated high school in Sioux Falls in 1968.  She attended Patricia Stevens Career & Finishing School as a language major and completed a European tour.  On December 8, 1972 Janie married the love of her life, Dean Edward Walk, they had one son, Nicholas Dean, born in 1974.  They settled down in Turtle River, MN, just north of Bemidji.  Jane was a stay at home mom for Nick but rejoined the workforce when he was of school age.  Janie went back to school at Bemidji State University, where she earned her Bachelor's degree in Accounting in 1988.  She worked for a variety of places including Ross Lewis Sign Co, Bemidji Sign Co., and Sanford Health, but really enjoyed her stint as Office Manager at Peak Performance physical therapy outpatient clinic.  She also was Secretary for the City of Turtle River.  Janie really enjoyed taking care of her family and their family dogs (Polly, Heidi, Abbey, and Henry) over the years.  She always had sweets around for the kids and grandkids who would visit.  Her beloved husband Dean, of almost 48 years, passed away in October of 2020.  Although he was gone, she carried on so that she could look after Henry (Dean's pup) and the rest of the family.  Janie always had a smile ready to be shown and love to give.

She is survived by her son Nicholas (Pamela) Walk, step-son Mitchell (Kathy) Walk, step-daughter Tracey Wilson.  Her sister-in-law Judy (Don Schultz), nephew David (Krista) Gross, and her grandchildren:  Brooklynn (Chris) Walk, Sydney Walk, Jareth Walk, Alicia (Rick) Walk, Kayla (Adam Schulte), Anthony (Courtney) Walk, Jennifer (Steven Fremling), Raymond Buss, Zachary (Whitney) Buss, Alexis (Chad Peterson), and Anthony Smith.  Many great-grandchildren (13+ and counting!), and numerous other nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Leo N. and Bettie L. Thelen, her husband Dean Edward Walk, step-sons Martin Jon Walk and Christopher Allen Walk, sister Katherine Gross and son-in-law Harold Wilson.

May she forever remain close to our hearts and rest in our Savior's loving arms.
