Jack Delano Israelson

Jack Delano Israelson, 93, died peacefully at home under the care of Hospice with family members by his side. He was a devoted husband and loving father.

Memorial ervice of remembrance will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 17, 2023 at the United Methodist Church in Bemidji, MN with a visitation one hour prior to the service at church.

Jack was born on March 13, 1930, in Regina, Saskatchewan. He grew up in the Lake Bronson, MN area.  He attended Crookston AC his freshmen and sophomore years of high school. He then moved to Lancaster and graduated from Lancaster high school.  There he was president of both his class and the student council.  He lettered in football, basketball, track, and baseball. 

On June 23rd, 1950, he married the love of his life, Sharon Thomson. They moved to Thief River Falls where he worked for Land O Lakes creamery. He continued in the creamery business for over 20 years, eventually moving to Bemidji where they raised 6 children and spent their life. He finished out his career in roofing and retired in 1993.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and May Israelson; his foster parents, Alfred and Julia Berg; foster brother, Kenneth Berg and wife Evelyn; brother-in-law, Bill Thomson; and his dog, Rocky. 

He will be forever remembered by his wife of 72 years, Sharon; his dog, Charlie;  his 6 children: Linda Jackson (Terry), Brian (Mary), Mary Cannon (Tom), John (Mary), Bill (Sarah), Patti (Jim); His grandchildren – Chase, Travis, Carson, Tate, Cindy, Jenna, Jeff, Tyler, Tara, Zach, Emily, Andrew, Nick, Sam, and Hannah; 15 great grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Judy Thomson.

Jack was an active member of the Bemidji Elks, the BTCC golf course, the Bemidji Curling Club, and the United Methodist Church. 

He enjoyed being active all sports, but especially loved curling, golfing, fishing, camping, and following the activities of his children and grandkids. He was happiest doing things with, and for, his family. 

Jack will be remembered for his love of friends and family.  He was very proud of his family. He was a true role model: strong, kind, loving, and supportive. He passed on the importance of treating others with respect, developing a good work ethic, to always do the right thing, and his faith in God.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be given to the local Hospice who took such good care of him, the United Methodist Church, or a charity of your choice.
