Gurine "Gerry" Dorothy (Petersen) Brune

Gurine (Gerry) Dorothy Brune died peacefully December 29, 2018 under the loving care of Neilson Place (Elderberry) in Bemidji. 

Funeral Services will be 10:30 AM Friday, January 4, 2019 at St. Philips Catholic Church, Bemidji with Fr. Chuck Huck officiating.  Visitation will be for one hour before the service at the church.  Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery in the spring under the direction of the Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home and Cremation Service.

Gerry was born to Isabel and Cornelus Petersen April 15, 1926 in Bemidji, Minnesota, the oldest daughter of 7 children.  She married Henry “Harry” Justin Brune October 9, 1945 in Bemidji.  Harry & Gerry owned and operated Tranquilla Resort on Big Lake where they raised their seven children.  After Harry & Gerry sold the individual cabins in the 70’s they continued to live their lives on Brune Road, just a short distance from the original resort where they spent most evenings on the lake fishing.   Harry passed away September 2008, Gerry continued her life on Brune Road up to October 2014 when she moved into Windsong.  Gerry was an avid gardener and loved her volunteer time at St. Philips Clothing Depot. Gerry loved knitting blankets for grandkids and baby hats for the hospital.  She will be missed by many.

She is survived by daughters Alice Schletty, West St. Paul, MN, Janette (Darrell) Erickson, Woodbury, MN, Ann (John) Carlson, Bemidji, MN and Lisa (Joe) Helm, St. Michael, MN; sons Joe (Connie) Brune, Zimmerman, MN & Jim (Halima) Brune, Grand Junction, Colorado; 17 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; brother Francis “Pete” (Rosemary) Petersen, Brooklyn Park, MN and sisters Ione (Arlen) Bartels, Garrison, MN, Sister Vivian Petersen, Crookston, MN and Cornelia “NeNe” (Rubin) Smith, Glen Burnie, Maryland; brother-in-law Paul “Red” Brune, Bemidji, MN and sister-in-law Marion Petersen, Springfield, Missouri.

Preceded in death by parents Cornelus & Isabel Petersen; loving husband Harry Brune; son and daughter-in-law Ron & Kathy Brune; son-in-law Joe Schletty; brothers Clifford Petersen and Joseph Petersen.

Family prefers memorials to St. Philips Catholic School.
