Glen Allen Steele, beloved son of Jerome and Alice (Kruft) Steele, passed away peacefully on April 7, 2025, at St. Luke’s Elmore Medical Center in Mountain Home, Idaho, at the age of 82.
Born November 2, 1942, in Bemidji, Minnesota, Glen had an adventurous spirit from an early age. He graduated from Bemidji High School in 1960 and soon after enlisted in the Navy, serving for 4 years in total.
Throughout his life, Glen was a generous and kind-hearted individual, always willing to lend a hand. He spent many years on the West Coast before settling in Anchorage, Alaska, with his wife, Geri Steele, until her passing in 2006. During his time in Alaska, he made a lasting impact on those around him, offering carpentry services, volunteering at VFW Post 10252, and sharing his love of storytelling, often embellishing details for dramatic effect.
An avid outdoorsman, Glen loved fishing for halibut and lingcod in Seward, Alaska, and dip netting salmon near his cabin on the Kasilof River. He took great pride in his famous smoked salmon, which he gladly shared with family and friends. His generosity and willingness to help others defined him, and he truly exemplified the phrase, “He would give the shirt off his back.”
In his later years, Glen moved to Cascade, Idaho, and eventually to Country Living Retirement Home in Mountain Home, where he was greatly admired by the staff. His family is deeply grateful to the compassionate caregivers at both Country Living Retirement Home and St. Luke’s Elmore Medical Center for ensuring he was well cared for and surrounded by love in his final days.
Glen was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Geri Steele; siblings: 4 brothers Jerome, Roger, Robert (Bob), Thomas (Tom), and 1 sister, Donna (Chuck Schmitt); his son, Jerry Steele; and brothers-in-law Chuck Schmitt and Charles "Chuck" Stombaugh (Kathy Stombaugh).
He is survived by his sister Kathy; brothers Curtis, Steven, and Stanley; son Jimmy; daughters Kerry and Sherri; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Glen will be fondly remembered for his generosity, humor, and unwavering love for family and friends. His legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew him.
