Dad's obituary: Gerald Louis Paul passed away from natural causes on Thursday, May 21, 2020, at the age of 84, in Bemidji, Minnesota. Gerald was born on December 3, 1935, in Hazel Park, Michigan, just outside of Detroit. The youngest of 3 sons, he attended Hazel Park High School and graduated in 1953. He joined the US Army from 1953-55, and graduated from the University of Detroit in 1959 with a degree in civil engineering. He moved to California in 1960 for his first job post-college, and there at Flood Control District in Los Angeles County he met his future bride, Eileen. They were married on March 24, 1962, in South Pasadena, California. Their first of three sons was born in California, and three years later they moved to Appleton, Wisconsin and had two more boys. In 1972, they moved to Bemidji, Minnesota, where he would spend the rest of his life. Gerald (known as “Jerry”) worked for 28 years at the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources as a regional hydrologist. Jerry was very active and loved bowling, bicycling and playing tennis. He was a member of the local Elks chapter, the American Legion, the Barbershoppers, and was one of the four members of the long-time barbershop quartet, The Century Notes. After retirement Jerry and Eileen traveled the globe, sometimes alone and other times with the members of the quartet and their wives. They wintered in Mazatlan, Mexico for several years and made many new friends there. Gerald is survived by his wife, Eileen, two brothers Marvin and Duane, three sons Ron, Derrick, and Brian, and three grandchildren Claudia, Theodore, and Ryan.
