Memorial Services will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, April 26, 2025 at First Lutheran Church, Bemidji. Pastor Corey Fuhrman will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
Gerald Dean Amundson was born on March 18, 1935, in Bemidji, MN. He was the beloved son of George and Olina Amundson (Rongstad) and was raised in the Pinewood area working on farms and cutting wood.
He met Clarice Kirkvold, the love of his life of more than seventy years, at a barn dance. They were married in 1955 at the Aure Church and had four children Daniel, David, Michael and Michelle. Jerry and Clarice enjoyed dancing throughout the many years they shared together.
They moved to Illinois and Jerry worked road construction and truck driving jobs. In 1963, he and his cousin Art Amundson, bought a tractor trailer and proceeded to wear that thing out, and he did!
In 1975 Jerry went to Alaska and worked on the construction of the Trans-Alaska Pipeline from Prudhoe Bay to Valdez - he seen it all. After the pipeline was completed, Clarice joined him in Alaska, and they were a team. Clarice cooked for the crew, and together they built roads and runways in many remote villages throughout Alaska. At the end of his career, he was the heavy hauler for Alyeska Pipeline Service Co. moving the “big iron” up and down the miles and miles of the pipeline haul road.
Jerry and Clarice retired in 1992 and moved back to Bemidji. They enjoyed many camping, fishing and hunting trips with family and friends. They worked together planting a big garden every year enjoying the bounty of their work and sharing the harvest with many.
He was a family man who loved his wife, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and a great-great grandchild. He leaves behind his wife Clarice, sons Dan (Laura), David (Jeannie), Mike (Pam) and daughter Michelle, 9 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and a great-great grandchild, his sister Janet Amundson and many other close relatives. It’s a big family and everyone always felt welcomed at their house.
Jerry was proceeded in death by his mother Olina, brother Eugene, sisters Helen and Marlene and great grandson Avery.
