Gary Joe Kaasa, 62, of Puposky, MN passed away on 2-22-22 at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo following a brief illness. He went peacefully with his children by his side.
A time of remembrance, 4:00 p.m., Saturday, May 14, 2022 at the Alaska Township Cemetery. Reception to follow at Alaska Township Volunteer Fire Department at 5:00 p.m.
Gary was born in Bemidji, MN, on July 25, 1959, to Arlak and Helen (Sweney) Kaasa. He graduated from Bemidji High School in 1978. He spent a few years logging out in Montana, often with some of his brothers. He returned to the family farm in Puposky to milk cows and work the fields till 2007 when he “retired” and transitioned to beef cattle and making hay. Gary was an active member of the Alaska Township Fire Department for many years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and most of all bullshitting and having a beverage with anyone. He loved to work and was a “fixer” of anything that would fit in his shop or park in front of it. He was known for being generous, willing to help anybody, an animal lover, trusting, honest, sincere, and humble. He enjoyed a simple, happy life.
Gary is survived by his children, Cheryl “Cheri” (Jesse) Greenwaldt of Bertha and Eric (Kati) Koch of Circle Pines; grandchildren, Callie and Connor Greenwaldt, and Colton and Gemma Koch; older siblings, Sid Kaasa of Montana, Ginger (Steven) Johnson, Arlen “Pete” (Cindy) Kaasa; younger siblings Gordon (Donna “Doon”) Kaasa, Ivan (Pam) Kaasa, all of Puposky; 12 nephews and nieces.
He was proceeded in death by his parents and infant sister, Kathy. And Spook, his beloved black lab that ruined him for all other dogs.
Honorary pallbearers are his friends and neighbors and he is led in his final steps by late Uncle Art.
