Franklin was born January 30, 1938 at Bemidji Hospital, Beltrami County, Minnesota to Harry E. Folsom and Helen C. Folsom of Pennington, Minnesota, Moose Lake Township where he grew up, attending four years of school at Good Land School, then attending school at Blackduck where he graduated in 1956.
After graduating, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy as part of an all Minnesota company from the area, attending basic training at Great Lakes Naval Training Center in Illinois. After basic training he was stationed on Treasure Island at San Francisco, California, where he served as a military pall bear and Honor Guard, while waiting to attend radar school, which he graduated from to become a radar operator.
After graduation, he was assigned to the USS Lenawee APA 195 for three years on the Pacific ocean, visiting many foreign port’s. Being separated from active duty in 1960 and transferred to inactive reserves, and honorably discharged in 1962.
In 1963 he married Elsie Pater of Blackduck, they had two daughters together, Bernadine and Sheila.
Over the years Frank has worked at many jobs. He worked seasonally for the U.S. Forest Service including as tower m an on Pimushe lookout tower, a summer in norther Idaho as a fire fighter and a bus driver hauling work crews in the mountains. He also worked as a carpenter for a contractor building houses and doing plumbing. Also doing sheet metal work for heating systems. In 1978 he married Elizabeth “Betty” Williams.
He is survived by two daughters; 4 step-daughters; one step-son; four grandson’s; granddaughter and 4 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Agnes; wife, Betty and two brothers, Alva and Harvey.
