Frances McKenzie, 94, of Bemidji, MN died Wednesday, February 12, 2020 at Sanford Bemidji Medical Center.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, February 24, 2020 at Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church, Bemidji with Fr. Mathew Cobb officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery, Little Falls, MN where she will rest with husband Dale who passed away in 2016.
Frances Lucille Black was born July 28, 1925 in Red Wing, MN to Frank and Amelia (Johnson) Black. On March 29, 1944 she married Dale McKenzie in Red Wing, MN. They had four children, Richard, Warren, Sharon and Darrell. She was the proud wife of a career military man and took the family to many places; Italy, Germany, Morocco, Puerto Rico and many states in the U.S. She often told people that she considered herself to be a veteran also. She was also a great lover of all animals. After military life, they settled in Bemidji, MN where Dale worked at BSU and she worked in retail. She was a member of the American Legion, VFW, and DAV auxiliaries as well as St. Bartholomew’s Church.
She is survived by 2 sons, Richard McKenzie of Bloomington, MN and Warren (Marcia Wendorff) McKenzie of Turtle River, MN; daughter, Sharon (Adel) El Khoury of Beirut, Lebanon; 2 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren;
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dale; son Darrell and great-grandson, Kyle.
