Ernest Lee Johnson

Ernest Lee Johnson, 80, died on April 23rd, 2024 with his family by his side.

A Celebration of Life will be held 11:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m., Saturday, May 18, 2024 at the Bemidji Eagles Club.

Ernie was born on May 11th, 1943 to Florence and Justis Johnson. He was raised by his Grandma Hilda, whom he thought of as his mother, as well as a very special Aunt Dorothy, who looked after him and loved him very much.

Ernie started working at a young age for the Kolkin Farm and logging for his father-in-law, John Klasen Sr., spent over 6 years in the Army National Guard, married his calf scramble partner Karen in 1961. He spent many years working for Thorson Inc, enjoying his winters logging, and farming all year long. Retirement was much enjoyed with the morning Eagles coffee crew, miles on the side by side, and restful time hanging out in the shop.

Ernie was truly a man of the earth and found joy in his family, nature, and in his beloved dog Dozer. His positive attitude, wit, and work ethic will be carried on by his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Grandma Hilda, Aunt Dorothy, brothers Ray (Pat) and John (Diane) Irwin, and many other extended family members.

He is survived by his wife Karen (Klasen) and three sons, Ernie (Linda) Johnson, Kevin (Mary) Johnson and Daren Johnson. Four grandchildren Luke (Stephanie) Johnson, Cassandra (Joel) Gohman, Kyle Johnson, Colt (Hannah) Johnson. Five plus great grandchildren Jett, Mackenna, Annie Johnson and Jaxson and Everett Gohman. His brother John (Pam) Johnson, Aunt Violet, many dear cousins, numerous nieces and nephews.
