Edith Ann (Lanes) Jessen

Her name was Edith Ann and that’s the truth. Edith Ann Jessen, age 87, passed peacefully on March 4. She is survived by her husband Robert (Bob) and three sons, Tom, Alan, and Eric, and her five grandchildren.

Memorial Services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 10, 2021 at New Salem Lutheran Church, Turtle River, MN.

Eadie, as so many called her, lived life fully. She was a tomboy and daddy’s girl on the farm. In country school she ruled and no one messed with her or her sister. In high school she was a straight A student who enjoyed music, dances, friends, and fun. But she wanted a career and went to Northwestern School of Nursing in Minneapolis. Her nursing roommate Ellen set her up on a blind date with the brother of Carl whom she was dating. His name was Bob and they married in 1954. 

In 1958 they moved into their first house in Woodbury, a suburb of St. Paul. Mom had stopped working to raise the boys but soon after Eric was born she went back to working nights at St. Joseph’s hospital in St. Paul. In 1971 Bob had an opportunity to get a job in Bemidji, Minnesota.  So off we were to that new adventure. Mom was great, she loved her garden, house and sons.

In Bemidji Eadie worked at the old Hospital and then the Beltrami County Nursing Services providing support to those in need. It was here that she made close lasting friendships with the staff. Eadie loved to travel and did so whenever she could and she traveled the world. She volunteered at the food bank and adolescent shelter. She became a leader in Salem Lutheran church in Turtle River, guiding it to its current location. She was a true believer in giving back to the community.

We will always remember Eadie as hard working, having a strong inner strength to get through hard times. She was always there to tell it like it was when you needed it. She was caring and supportive and truly loved her.
