Dwayne Thomas Burghart

Dwayne Thomas Burghart, 82, of Bemidji, MN passed away on June 15, 2024 at home with his wife and son in attendance. Dwayne cheerfully adapted to his memory loss as he cheerfully lived his life.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 19, 2024 at Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home. Visitation will be 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 18, 2024 at Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. A celebration of life will be held 2:00 p.m. at his interment on Thursday, June 20, 2024 at Fort Ridgely Park Cemetery near Fairfax, MN.

Dwayne Thomas Burghart was born on October 18, 1941 in New Ulm, MN to Marvin Thomas Burghart and Pauline Elvira Cunningham. Dwayne grew up on a farm in the Minnesota River Valley. He was educated for 8 years in the Fairax Public Schools and finished his education at the Seventh Day Adventist Maplewood Academy graduating in 1960. He was baptized and confirmed in the Seventh Day Adventist Church. After graduation he started working as a carpenter which became his lifetime vocation. He was employed by many different employers and most recently Red Lake Builders and Concordia Language Villages. Dwayne was united in marriage to Mary Ann Rieke on September 25, 1966 in Fairfax United Methodist church. They resided in Hutchinson until 1970 then moved to Bemidji, their present home. Their son Richard, adopted from Bogota, Columbia became part of their family in 1977. Dwayne led an active life involving horses of every size, fishing, hunting, snowmobiling and camping. He spent considerable time helping to develop the snowmobile trails in the area and providing horse pulled wagon rides at the county fair.

Dwayne was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Donna Blake.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; son, Richard; brother, Daryl (Patricia) as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
