Burton Clarence Steele passed away Friday, October 23, 2020 at the age of 93 at Sanford Bemidji Medical Center in Bemidji.
There will be a family-only funeral 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 29, 2020 at Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home and a burial at Sugar Bush Cemetery afterwards. No food will be available. Please wear a mask and practice social-distancing. Thank you.
Burton was born March 4, 1927, to Clarence and Mildred Steele in Turtle River Township. He served in the U.S. Army Infantry in Germany in WWII at the end of the war. He was proud to be a veteran, he wore his special hats saying that he was a WWII veteran. After his service, he married Mable Long in 1948 and they had six children. He was a very hard-working man. He worked as a logger, farmer, owned and operated a milk truck business for AMPI for many years, worked for the U.S. Forest Service for 25+ years and worked for experience works (a program for older adults) in many places in Bemidji into his 80's. He went to Adult Day Services for many years and finally lived in assisted living at D&D's Caring Hearts, which he liked very much.
Burton is survived by his children...Lilly (Ken) Toftum of Bemidji, Elaine (Mike) Warpula of Hibbing and Micheal Steele of Bemidji. He is also survived by his sisters...Betty Fraase of Buffalo, ND and Carol Sommerfeld of Mahnomen. He has 10 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Burton was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, brothers, Chester, Harold, Howard and Donald Steele, daughter, Verna Steele, and sons, Larry and Gary Steele, grandchild, Cory Warpula and many other family members.
