Bonnie Jean Brouse

Bonnie J. Brouse, 82, of Bemidji, MN died Sunday, June 16, 2024 at GoldPine Home, Bemidji.

A Celebration of Life for Bonnie will take place at Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home on Thursday, June 27th at 2:00pm, with visitation at 1:00pm.

Bonnie was the eldest child of six, born in Grand Forks, ND to Frank and Bernadette (Bushee) Kuzel Schnebli. Bonnie graduated from high school and married Daniel J. Brouse, Sr. in 1959. Together they had three children: Carrie Brouse; Daniel J. Brouse, Jr. and Jacqueline (Jackie) MacPherson.

Bonnie spent many years successfully employed at what is now Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND as an Admitting Coordinator. In 1994 she was left no choice but to retire early following a debilitating stroke. Still, she maintained her many friendships well beyond her retirement.

Bonnie enjoyed baking, reading and traveling. She was an enthusiastic game player, always happily accepting an invitation to play Bingo, Trouble, Smear, Pinochle, Bridge, Five Crowns, or a myriad of other games, including Solitaire. While residing with her daughter, Carrie, in Rochester, MN, Bonnie was an active member of the community Library Committee and Book Club.

Bonnie is survived by her sisters Debbie (Art) Bakken and Karen (Rick) Olson; sister-in-law Susan (Wayne) Kuzel; daughter Carrie Brouse of Danville, IN; son Daniel J. Brouse, Jr. (Jackie Greenwood Brouse) of Bemidji, MN; and daughter Jackie MacPherson (Dave MacPherson) of Grand Rapids, MN. She is also survived by her grandchildren Amanda (Mike) Birkey, Paul Pedraza (Lindsey Samera), Ashley (Rob) Rebel, and Emilie Brouse and her great grandchildren Jack Birkey, Elizabeth Birkey and Baby Boy Rebel, as well as several nieces and nephews. Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers Dale Kuzel, Wayne Kuzel and Mark Kuzel. All of Bonnie’s family was truly her pride and joy.

Bonnie’s children, and on Bonnie’s behalf, extend their heartfelt thanks to the owner and numerous staff members at Gold Pine Home who provided exceptional care for her between 2021 and 2024. We also wish to thank Bonnie’s good friends at Gold Pine Home, especially Jan Rawlyk and the late Eleanor Walters.
