Bernie Richard Berg

Bernie R. Berg, 79, of Bemidji, MN died July 23, 2021, after battling brain cancer.

A celebration of life will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, August 7, 2021, at his home.

He was born on September 9, 1941, in Sinclair Township, Clearwater County, MN to Oswald & Bernice Berg.  After attending rural grade school, he went to Clearbrook for 9th grade and dropped out of school in the 10th grade.  He went on to take a correspondence course in mechanics.  He loved to tinker with motors and invent things, some would work, and others would not.  He married Kathleen Meredith on July 2, 1960.  He worked at the Department of Transportation.  Always longing to be back in Bemidji, he got a transfer in 1982.  He retired in 2004 after 35 years.  He spent his retirement hunting, fishing, and gardening.

Bernie is survived by his wife Kathleen; children, Kevin Berg of Atlanta, GA, Konnie Brown of Taylorsville, MS, and Steven Berg of Bemidji; 5 grandchildren & 7 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces & nephews; siblings, Jean Bergstrom of Deming, NM, Joy Parker of Clearbrook, MN, Mary Elsholtz of Wisconsin & Arizona, John Berg of Bemidji, Orvie Berg of Rock Springs, WY, Trygve Berg of Grand Rapids, MN and Karen Kolosso of Appleton, WI.  He is preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Lori Diaz, and brother Dan Berg.
