Barbara Ann (Aldal) Pierce, 81, of Bemidji passed away surrounded by her loved ones October 23, 2020, at Colleen’s Caring Hands, Bemidji, MN. She was born May 25, 1939 in Debs, MN. Barbara was the daughter of Carl and Esther (Josefson) Aldal and attended Bemidji area schools. In 1957 she graduated from Aurora Colorado High School.
On September 6, 1957, Barbara was united in marriage to Gordon Pierce Sr, at Calvary Lutheran Church, Nymore, MN.
Barbara was an active member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Bemidji. Here she devoted her time and talents serving in many roles: Church Women VP and President, Sunday school teacher, Calvary Quilters, the church board and numerous committees. She volunteered at Beltrami County Nursing Home for years. She often brought her daughters along teaching them how to nurture and care for the elderly.
Barbara had a beautiful voice and sang in the Calvary Lutheran Church choir. She was also a member of the Northwoods Arts Council and Bemidji Woodcarvers Club.
One of our dearest stories from mom was while she attended high school in Colorado. Her art teacher asked her to draw a holiday scene on the large classroom blackboard. The teacher was trying to get mom to believe in her talent and encourage her gift for art. Oh how we all wish we could’ve seen what she created!
Barbara worked for Beltrami County Nursing Service continuing tirelessly to make our world a more compassionate, loving and beautiful place. Her faith, love and care for her family was of utmost importance. We can still hear mom saying “tusa munta” when we were hurt, worried or frightened.
The family gives a heartfelt thank you to all the staff at Colleen’s Caring Hands for the wonderful loving care provided for Barbara.
Barbara is survived by her husband and best friend, Gordon Pierce Sr. of Bemidji, son Gordon Pierce Jr. of Bemidji, daughters Jennie (Kevin) Rafferty of Winona, MN, Patti (Tim) Port of Bemidji and Melissa (Ryan) Voz, Avon, MN.
