Arthur Sundahl Obituary

Arthur Rueben “Art” Sundahl, 88, of Bemidji, passed away peacefully January 8, 2022 in Sanford Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.

Art will be interred in a private ceremony. A memorial service is anticipated to be held in the summer of 2022.

Art grew up in Bemidji, MN and was an Army veteran, serving honorably from 1953 to 1955.  He graduated from Bemidji State University with a Masters in Education. He and Kathleen Arnoldt married in the summer of 1961 in Walla Walla, Washington, spending over 60 wonderful years together raising their three children. As a dedicated industrial arts educator in both Redondo Beach, CA between 1959-1965 and Aurora-Hoyt Lakes, MN between 1965-1989, he touched many lives in over 30 years as a teacher. He spent his retirement years in the family homestead in Hubbard County, where he was born. He loved to travel, especially to the Southwest. A skilled and avid craftsman, Art enjoyed working with his hands doing multiple carpentry, homebuilding and woodworking projects. Art loved being outdoors, jazz music, and having a “reeb” with his family. He was deeply invested in his family, all of whom loved and will continue to love him as deeply. Understated but quick with a smile, Art was known for a gentle good nature, sense of humor, artistry, creativity and generosity. He remained a member of Aardahl Lutheran Church since his youth. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.

Preceded in death by parents John E. Sundahl and Anne Landsverk and siblings Randi (Rollie) Evans, Evelyn (Ray) Senecal, Olga “Sunny” (Don) Greenman, Esther “Rusty” (Robert) Mittet, John Alex (Lenore) Sundahl. Survived by his loving wife Kathy; children Stephen Sundahl (Dorothy), Laura Sievers (Kellen) and Alison Sundahl-Bartlett (Jeff); grandson Benjamin Arthur and numerous nieces and nephews.
