Arthur Hand

Arthur (Art) Leroy Hand, 86, passed away peacefully in his home on 8/30/2025.

Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 9, 2025 at Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home, Bemidji. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Born on 11/11/1938, Art lived a vibrant life at Carr 1, where he was surrounded by a caring community that became his extended family. Arthur was a cherished member of Carr 1, living there for over 20 years, known for his loud and funny self, his love for Christmas, and his TV shows. He enjoyed watching The Golden Girls, and The Price is Right, and listening to music while spending time outside. Arthur loved to drink coffee and going out to eat. Art approached each day with joy, greeting his staff and housemates every morning as he came out of his room. His spirit was the heart of the home, where he formed deep bonds with both staff and his housemates. The dedicated staff were more than caregivers to Arthur, They were friends, advocates, and most importantly, family. Staff often celebrated milestones with Art. Whether it was going out to eat in the community or helping with shopping, or accomplishing a task at home. Arthur’s housemates were like his family, sharing laughter and countless memories together. Arthur and his housemate Karen often spent time throughout the day visiting with each other.
