Annie was born to Peter (Fritz) and Agnes Petersen October 29, 1926, in Garlstorf, Germany. Her parents brought Annie and her sister Elsie and brothers, Hugo and Karl to the United States in the fall of 1927 aboard the ship New Amsterdam. They lived in Kansas and Nebraska before moving to the farm at Solway in March of 1932. In Annie’s senior year of high school she was diagnosed with Tuberculosis and entered the Lake Julia Sanatorium in December 1943 and spent the next 6 years in treatment (basically quarantine). She graduated from Bemidji High School while at Lake Julia. Shortly after she was released she went to work for the USDA-ASC (farm programs office) alongside her sister Elsie. Annie worked for the ASC/FSA office in Bemidji for 35 years and retired in 1984. Annie married Edwin Lundberg October 17, 1970 and lived on the farm in Eckles Township. She thoroughly enjoyed her life on the farm, gardening and helping Edwin with the sheep and cattle.
Annie was extremely talented at knitting and crocheting and always had a project handy. Her many nieces and nephews received wonderful handmade gifts. She was very active at her church, Solway Lutheran, as treasurer of the ladies aid a member of the quilters group and always ready to cook and bake for church functions. Annie and Edwin were at every family gathering, between them there were lots of family celebrations to attend. After Edwin passed, Annie was a fixture at the weekly Pony Lake music jam sessions.
Annie resided in the Sanford Trillium Memory Care unit from February 2013 until her passing. She was so loved and well cared for by all the staff who truly became a family to her. She loved to sing and knew the words to all the old songs and joined in all activities until this past year.
She is survived by her cousin, Herman Petersen, 16 nieces and nephews and many great and great great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Fritz and Agnes Petersen, husband Edwin Lundberg, 2 infant sisters (in Germany), sister Elsie Gullicksrud, brothers Hugo Petersen and Karl Petersen, sisters-in-law, Esther Petersen Speckman, Jeanne Petersen and Louise Lundberg, brothers-in law Leonard Gullicksrud, and Levine Lundberg and nephew Paul Lundberg.
The family wants to thank all the Trillium staff over the years for their care and love – you really became family, also much appreciation and thanks to Sanford Hospice.
The family of Anneliese would like to thank her niece, Julie Zeto, for the extraordinary love, care, dedication and support she provided to her over the past 10 plus years.
