Allen “Sonny” English, Jr., 73, died Monday, March 29, 2021 at Red Lake Hospital, Red Lake, MN.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 3, 2021 at the New Little Rock Community Center, Little Rock, MN. A Wake will begin at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, April 1, 2021 at the New Little Rock Community Center and will continue until the time of the service. Interment will be in St. John’s Episcopal Cemetery, Red Lake, MN.
Allen Francis English, Jr. was born September 6, 1947 in Red Lake, MN to Allen English, Sr., and Phyllis Sumner. He grew up in Red Lake and graduated from Red Lake High School in 1965. He attended college in the Twin Cities but was then drafted into the US Army during the Vietnam war. After being honorably discharged in 1973, Allen came back to Red Lake and worked various jobs until he was appointed the Little Rock Representative from 1978-1998. He was school board chairman of CNS Wahpeton from 1980-1998. Allen enjoyed watching the Red Lake Warriors basketball teams, Minnesota Vikings & Twins and traveling to different casinos. His most treasured time was spent with his family.
Allen is survived by his children, Lea (Travis) Lajeunesse, Delwyn (Sonnie) English, Sr., and Holly (Aaron Cook) English; 11 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; mother, Phyllis Sumner; siblings, Carol English-Hunt, Rose Barrett, Delores English, and Lisa Sumner and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his father; sister, Connie Sumner; brothers, Dale English, Sr., Gary Sumner, Joseph Sumner and Darrell Sigana; grandchildren, Delany Rae English Beaulieu, and James English and grandparents, George English and Elizabeth English.
