Allen Evans, 88, of Bemidji, MN died Saturday, March 11, 2023 at GoldPine Home, Bemidji.
Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 5, 2023 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Ulen, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Bethlehem Cemetery, Ulen.
Allen Lee Evans, born June 13, 1934 in Minneapolis, MN, first born of Erwin and Melba Evans. He was raised and graduated high school in Ulen, MN. He went on with schooling for two years at Wahpeton School of Science in North Dakota. Allen and his wife, Alvina, settled in Bemidji. He worked at Naylor’s and from there he worked at the Bemidji State University. His wife and three daughters passed away July 7, 1972. Allen married Penny Ann Tolman on July 17, 1973 and raised a daughter. Allen was a member of the Civil Air Patrol (CAP). He was the radio operator and also went out on many rescue missions. Allen cared a great deal for his community and others and donated to several charities throughout his life. He was on the first board for PBS. He took a large interest and worked at Buena Vista for many years. Allen loved cross county and down hill skiing. He loved to hunt and fish. He built his own canoe and did a lot of canoeing, camping and hiking. His family would like to thank the staff at GoldPine Home for all the wonderful care they provided Allen during his stay with them. We would also like to thank Hospice Care for all the care they gave Allen.
He is survived by his wife, Penny Ann, a daughter, Sharline (Evans) McFarland; 4 grandchildren, Jesse (32), Justin (31), Michelle (28) and Rebecca (26); six great-grandchildren; sister, Jane Williams of Fayetteville and a brother, Robert Evans of Fargo, ND.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Erwin and Melba Evans; his first wife, Alvina Evans and three daughters, Anne, Kathy and Mary; his brother-in-law, Jim Williams; grandson, Scott Evans and son-in-law, John McFarland.
