William Whitney Walter

William “Bill” Walter, 77, of Cass Lake, MN died unexpectedly Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at his home.

Memorial Mass will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, October 26, 2017 at St Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 7790 S 192nd St, Gretna, NE 68028. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at Heafey Hoffmann Dworak Cutler Mortuary West Chapel with a prayer vigil at 7:00 p.m.  Inurnment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Omaha, NE.

William Whitney Walter was born July 12, 1940 in Lincoln, NE to Robert & Dorothy Walter.  He grew up and graduated from Benson High School, Omaha in 1958.  Bill entered the US Army in 1960 and was honorably discharged in 1966.  He then attended the University of Nebraska-Omaha.  On June 2, 1962 he was united in marriage to Sue Ann Novak in St. Cecilia Cathedral, Omaha.  Bill worked almost his entire career in the transportation industry with Butter Nut Bread and Old Home Bread.   After their retirement, Bill & Sue Ann moved to their lake home on Leech Lake near Cass Lake. 

Bill is survived by wife Sue Ann Walter; children, Mary Howell, Heidi (Mike) Jansen and Sue Ann (Ray) Tyrakoski all of Omaha, NE; 10 grandchildren & 1 great grandchild; sisters, Judy Zajac; brother, John Walter.  He is preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Terry Howell; brother, Robert and sister, Julie Wilson.

Memorials are preferred to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospitals.
