Victoria B. Standera, 89, passed away on June 22, 2018 at her residence at GoldPine Home in Bemidji, MN.
Victoria was born in Austria and grew up in Poland. Her family was displaced by the Russian invasion of Poland at the end of World War II. Victoria met her husband, William Standera, in a refugee camp in Italy in 1948. They were married and immigrated to Australia. Vicky and Bill owned a delicatessen in Melbourne, Australia and ran it successfully for many years. In 1966, the Standera family moved to Des Moines, Iowa to rejoin family that had immigrated to the United States after the War. Vicky Retired in 1997 after 25 years of work with Preferred Risk Insurance of West Des Moines. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Vicky moved to Bemidji, MN in 2012. She enjoyed reading, walking and gardening. Vicky was preceded in death by her parents, Adam and Margaret Szmidt, her sisters, Theresa Bondurowicz and Agnes Szwarc, her son, Andrew and her husband, Bill. She is survived by her sons, Peter and Tony (Dawn) and grandson, Eric.
A celebration of Vicky’s life will be planned at a later date.
