Vernon Leroy Kadlec

Vernon LeRoy Kadlec, Bemidji, MN, formerly of Beatrice, NE. With great sadness, the family of Vernon Kadlec announces his passing, after a brief illness, on February 24, 2018 at the age of 84.

Vernon was born April 11, 1933 in Odell NE and graduated from Odell High in 1951. After graduation, he served as a metal smith in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War from 1951 to 1955. He married Dolores Forke on May 5th, 1956 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Beatrice. After the war, Vernon worked at Dempster Industries as a welder for 9 years. He was a firefighter for the Beatrice Fire Department from November 1965 until his retirement in February 1989. He also worked at various other businesses in Beatrice, including Dole Floral, Roszell’s Office Equipment, and MelRon’s Office Equipment. Vernon enjoyed following Nebraska Cornhusker football and St. Louis Cardinals baseball, and completing crossword and jigsaw puzzles.

He is survived by Dolores, his wife of 61 years; and two daughters, Colleen Greer (Deb Peterson) of Bemidji MN, and Kayla (Eric) Stratton of Snohomish WA. He leaves behind three grandchildren (Bryan, Rebecca, Ethan), two great-grandchildren, and brother, Alvin Dale (Shirley) Kadlec of Beatrice. He was preceded in death by his parents, Aldrich and Esther (Hicks) Kadlec and three sisters.

Funeral services will be held Friday, March 2, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice with interment to follow in the Evergreen Home Cemetery in Beatrice. Military Honors will be conducted by Bitting-Norman American Legion Post 27 and the U.S. Navy.  Visitation will be held Thursday, March 1, 2018, from noon to 8 p.m. at the mortuary.
