Roberta Werstlein, 77, of Bemidji, MN died peacefully surrounded by her family, Thursday, August 30, 2018 at her daughter’s home, Bagley, MN.
Memorial Services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, September 8, 2018 at St. Philip’s Catholic Church with Fr. Bryan Kujawa officiating. Family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements were entrusted to the Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bemidji.
Roberta was born in Wilton to Frank and Clara (Christensen) on April 3, 1941. Berta, as she was known to family and friends, moved to Bemidji when she was very young. She graduated from St. Philip’s Parochial School in 1955 and then went to St. Josephs Academy in Fosston where she contemplated being a nun. (her husband and children are grateful she changed her mind) On July 11, 1959 she married Ronnie Werstlein. Their union produced 4 children in the next 5 years. Berta didn’t sit still long, she was always busy with something whether it was family, friends, work or later volunteering at the church. She was very dedicated, devoted and loving to her family, friends, church and employers.
She leaves behind her deeply saddened children, Anita (Fred) Reinke of Solway, Kim Niswander of Bagley, Robert (Sandy Taylor) Werstlein of Princeton and Paul (Lisa) Werstlein of Cass Lake; 5 grandchildren, Keith (Lauren) Reinke, Kassandra (Robert) Stafford, Justin Werstlein, Chad Werstlein and Krista Werstlein; great-grandson, Arlo Stafford; sisters, Louise Mulvaney of Elk River, Margaret Roberts of Pengilly, Clara (Gene) Manecke of Fosston, Alvena Dybsand of Akeley and Jamie (Bill) Cassavant of Red Lake Falls; brother, Clair (Bernie) Brennan of Bemidji and several nieces, nephews and many, many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Clara Brennan; husband, Ronnie Werstlein; brothers, John and Frank Brennan; sisters, Ellen Brule and Dorothy Paulson; granddaughter, Tara Niswander-Martine and great-grandson, Wyatt Martine.
