Raymond “Ray” M. Voges, 92, of Bemidji, MN died Thursday, March 29, 2018 at Neilson Place, Bemidji.
Funeral Services will be 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at First Lutheran Church, Bemidji with Pastor Linnea Papke-Larson officiating. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Monday, April 2, 2018 at the Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the spring in Greenwood Cemetery, Bemidji.
Ray Voges was born on May 30, 1925 at Courtland, MN to George and Martha (Wells) Voges. He attended Immanuel Lutheran School. He was drafted into the Army in WWII on February 16, 1945, and was honorably discharged December 11, 1946. He attended Minnesota State Patrol School in 1957 at Camp Ripley, going to work at the Bemidji Station, where he worked his entire career, retiring in 1980. He was credited with two, life-saving awards, during his tenure. On June 29, 1979 he married Barbara Nord. They spent their winters in Harlingen, TX since 1982, returning to Bemidji in the summers. Ray enjoyed golfing, fishing, playing cards and especially dancing! His family was a very important part of his life, including grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many many close friends. Ray was known as “Mr. Fixit”, always willing to lend a hand wherever he could. He was a life member of the American Legion and VFW, a member of the Bemidji Eagles Club and the American Association of State Troopers. He was a member of First Lutheran Church of Bemidji.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara; six children, Dennis (Cynthia) Nord, Linda (Bud) Olson, Karen (Phil) Holt, Sandy (Leon) Renner, Debbe (Gregg) Hanson and Kim Nord; 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and a large number of beloved nieces, nephews and families.
He was preceded in death by his parents; all of his 9 siblings, (3 brothers and 6 sisters) and their spouses.
